Well I forgot to post a blog last week so I am going to make up for it by posting two blogs this week.
Two weeks ago, we had a few speakers come in and talk to us about self-help and nutrition. Our first speaker was Chasity Kuttrus who is a life coach. At first, when I thought about someone who needed a life coach, I thought of people who couldn't handle their lives or jobs and needed someone to stand beside them, telling them what to do. I found it interesting how she explained that life coaches are becoming more popular and how many people in high position jobs are using them. I was surprised when President Krendl said that she has used a life coach before. Even though I can't really see myself using a life coach, it was interesting to see how they have changed over these years and aren't just for people who can't handle their life.
After that, we had some specialists from Otterbein talk to us about nutrition and exercise. First we had Lynn Esselstein talk to us about proper nutrition. I found her advice very useful because on some days, I have no time to run and grab lunch, so I was happy when she gave us some ideas about what we could eat instead. I had always been eating just a protein bar or nothing at all and that was starting to get boring to me, so I am happy that she gave me some new ideas, like fruit and nuts. I also found it interesting what she said about how women are not getting enough calcium. I thought that I was getting enough, but after listening to her speak, I realized that I wasn't getting as much as I needed and so I started to eat cheese sticks, which I am hoping are getting me closer to my daily calcium intake.
Then we closed with Kim Fischer talking to us about fitness. I liked the way that she approached her topic because most trainers would say you need to exercise everyday and lift weights, but instead, she said how we can find exercise in everything we do and how just making small adjustments to our lifestyle, like taking the stairs or parking back a little further, can make us healthier. I want to exercise more and be more active but I am so busy that I cannot find the time. But I don't feel as guilty because I climb four flights of stairs everyday so I am getting some exercise every day.
